Born on March 11, 1906 in Novgorod in Ukraine, then emigrated to Switzerland at the age of 5 Mr. Davidoff - whose real first name is Suessele-Meier, worked from a young age in the tobacco shop opened by his father Hillel in the center of Geneva in 1911. At the end of a stay of nearly 3 years in Latin America in the 1920s, Zino Davidoff took over the management of the store in Geneva in 1930. During the Second World War, the store was the only point of sale in world offering a complete range of 1st choice Havana cigars: Switzerland is not at war and the French tobacco monopoly, Seita, has sold a stock of more than 2 million Havana cigars for 1 million French francs to Mr. Davidoff before the entry of German troops into Paris. Business relations between Davidoff and Cuba developed after the war and even after the Cuban revolution of 1959. In 1967 the first products branded with the Davidoff name were produced in Cuba. In 1971, Davidoff sold his business to the Oettinger group, but remained the brand's ambassador. During the 1980s relations between Cubatabaco and the Oettinger group became strained to the point of breaking: from 1991 all Davidoff products were produced in the Dominican Republic.
